Beer is still the booze of choice for most Canadians.
Stats Canada says beer is still by far the biggest seller as far as alcoholic beverages are concerned.
Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries Andrea Kowal explains that the major brands are still the best sellers.
“Most of the beer market still is dominated by those brands, the popular brands like Molson, Labatt, Budweiser, Coors, they still sell at 80 per cent.”
But what about that other 20 per cent? Kowal says there are definitely some emerging trends.
“Microbreweries and craft beers, as everyone knows, are becoming more and more popular. They are growing. Ciders are really growing. They’ve seen a growth of 50 per cent in the last year.”
According to the Stats Canada report, Canadians spent $21.3-billion on alcoholic beverages in the last fiscal year, a nearly four per cent jump.
