The wildfire situation continues to improve in southeastern Manitoba, thanks largely in part to the cool weather.
The fire northeast of Caddy Lake on the Manitoba/Ontario border remains 58 square kilometres, and is more than 50% contained.
Evacuation orders remain in effect, but travel and burning permit restrictions in eastern Manitoba have been lifted. Also, PR 312 from one kilometre east of PTH 44 — that’s the Big Island turn off — to the Ontario border remains closed.
Further north, the Beresford Lake fire is 750 square kilometres, and is also 50 percent contained.
Evacuation orders for the area also remain in effect for the Beresford cottage subdivision in the Nopiming Provincial Park, as well as Wallace Lake — which affects 61 cottages and one lodge.
Fifty-eight wildfires have been reported in Manitoba this year. The average for this date is 87.
