With the wildfires raging near Fort McMurray again, the main concern now is the main oil company camps North of the city.
Large camps for Suncor and Syncrude closest to Fort Mac have been evacuated.
Global News Edmonton reporter Sarah Kraus says the fire took a drastic change today…
“… with shifting winds and the flames edging closer to Fort McMurray, there was more concern to emergency officials of the fire getting closer to some large oil facilities. They have started a precautionary evacuation, and have just left essential services, like staff that would do things like shut down, or industrial firefighters on sight.”
Kraus added that some workers are being sent north, to other camps, not south. “Five-to six hundred workers from the smaller camps are actually going north to some of the larger camps just north of Fort McMurray, that can accomodate them. And they are not flying, they are just driving north, even in big buses.”
At one point utility crews working to restore power in the city had to stop working and were evacuated, as the fire came within five kilometres west of Fort McMurray.
