There’s a crackdown on zebra mussels coming this year.
The laws have been beefed up to try to slow or stop the spread of the mussels.
The province’s aquatic invasive species expert Candace Parks tells us it’s now illegal not to clean off your boat.
“So, it is illegal to have these things on your watercraft or in your possession,” says Parks.
There will be highway checkstops throughout the summer to inspect boats to make sure they’re clear of the mussels.
As always, you’ll have to scrape them off your boat, drain and dry your vessel once you take it out of an infected waterway.
If you are caught with zebra mussels on your boat, you may be fined.
