A 30-year-old man from Winnipeg is recovering after being shot by an RCMP officer.
It happened in the Portage la Prairie area this morning after police got a report of an erratic driver.
Sargeant Bert Paquet says the vehicle was located, which led to a brief chase before it ended the area of Highway 1 and Highway 240.
Paquet says no officer goes to work thinking his gun will be used.
“I can’t get into details of the seconds that occurred before the officer had to discharge his firearm,” Paquet explains. “I can confirm that a firearm was seized from the suspect vehicle.”
Paquet says the suspect has non-life threatening injuries.
He adds the Independent Investigations Unit will be investigating the incident.
