The Queen of England may have been the first female on our banknotes, but by 2018 we will finally have our first female Canadian on our banknotes too.
While no decision has been made as of yet, an Angus Reid poll shows almost a third of Canadians are want Nellie McClung, who fought to have women legally recognized.
Of course, this doesn’t come without controversy. Some people are citing how McClung supported eugenics and forced sterilization of the handicapped. But, looking at history, many figures back then championed issues we now acknowledge as racist or discriminatory.
Nonetheless, you tell me, would you like to see Nellie McClung on a Canadian banknote? If not, name your choice. Taking your calls and texts after 1pm: 204.780.6868.
