Liberals from across Canada will invade Winnipeg next weekend for the party’s national convention.
President of the Liberal Party of Canada’s Manitoba Branch Sachit Mehra says it’s a big get for Winnipeg – one of the largest conventions the city has hosted in many years.
We were in close competition with Niagra Falls and Calgary, but many new attractions put us on top.
“When you consider things like the brand new Convention Centre, the Human Rights Museum, the fact that there’s been billions of dollars of investments in Winnipeg over the last number of years, that really does go a long way towards bringing not only conventions like this, but other conventions as well,” Mehra said.
He says many people with lots of clout will be in the city.
“MPs, Cabinet members, the Prime Minister himself. That’s incredible. When you think about decision-makers and opinion leaders and all these kinds of people all in Winnipeg at once, that’s fantastic,” he said.
Party members will have a packed agenda.
“We’re going to be looking and discussing policy matters, what happens at the party level and things that are important to our delegates and our membership and reviewing all those things. There is a celebratory component to this and, of course, that will happen as well.”
