The Goldeyes started the 2016 season with a splash, but suffered their first lost Saturday. A 9th inning charge saw the Joplin Blasters walk off Winnipeg 6-5 to end a bid for a third straight win to open the American Association campaign.
Joplin got the scoring started with a pair of runs in the first. The hosts from Missouri added one more in the 3rd inning for a 3-0 lead.
Jacob Rogers homered in the fourth to get the Goldeyes on the board. Wes Darvill drove in a run in the 6th inning to get within 1. Adam Heisler brought home the tying run and Reggie Abercrombie hit the an RBI single to take the lead. Maikol Gonzalez scored on a sacrifice play to add another in the 9th.
Up two in the bottom of the final inning the Goldeyes could not hold on. The Blasters scored three in the frame to complete the comeback and take their first win of the season.
Winnipeg wraps up the season opening series Sunday. The Fish started the year with an 8-1 win over Joplin Thursday and added a 4-3 victory Friday in 11 innings.
