If you have an electric car, there’s a new spot in Winnipeg to charge your ride.
A pair of charging stations have been set up at Edmond Financial Group at 420 Academy Road.
President of Edmond Financial Paul Edmond says Manitoba is well behind when it comes to infrastructure for electric cars.
“No one’s going to buy an electric car when they can’t get it charged. The intent is to bring more infrastructure to Manitoba. We’re really lagging behind many of the provinces. BC leads the pack in EV [electric vehicle] stations, I think they have more than 500 in the province. We have 50 or so.”
He believes that’s the main reason there aren’t many on the road here.
“Our numbers are low. We make up 3.6 per cent of Canada’s population and we have about one per cent of the EV market. The bottom line is I think more and more people will look at electric and consider electric once the infrastructure is in.”
Edmond says one of his key motivators is trying to encourage greener modes of transportation to cut down on emissions.
He says you can use the spots during the evening on weeknights, and whenever you want on weekends.
