WINNIPEG – The curtain goes up on the home portion of the Winnipeg Goldeyes 2016 schedule tonight when the Fish host Sioux Falls in a 7 p.m. start at Shaw Park.
Winnipeg began the season with a 10 game road trip, and came home sitting at 6-4 following a 4-2 win in Lincoln on Sunday Afternoon.
Sioux Falls are off to a “Jekyll and Hyde” 5-5 to start the season, as the Canaries started 5-0 and arrive in Winnipeg on a 5 game losing streak.
Mike O’Brien (pictured) gets the start this evening for the Goldeyes after going 2-0 with a 2.92 ERA.
Besides the former NY Yankees farmhand, Winnipeg has also received tremendous early season performances from outfielders David Rohm and Adam Heisler. (pictured below).
Rohm is having a terrific start to the season with an American Association leading batting average of .471- 46 percentage points better than the next closest hitter, Geraldo Valentin of Joplin. The 6-4, 230 pound former Atlanta Braves 9th round pick (2010) is 16/34 with 8 runs batted in through the first 10 games.
Heisler also ranks 7th among AA hitters with a .405 average and is averaging a stolen base per game. In addition to those 10 thefts, the soon to be 28 year old native of Mobile, Alabama has also gone yard twice and is tied with Rohm for the team lead with 8 RBI.
