Winnipeg – The Winnipeg Blue Bombers announced details on Friday of a new method of honouring their all-time greats. The football club has established a Ring of Honour at Investors Group Field, and the first name that will be added to salute the very best of the Bombers legends is that of Chris Walby.
Walby played 16 seasons with the Bombers and is not only considered to be among the best offensive lineman in team history, he is also viewed as one of the best in CFL history. 9 times he was named an all-star, twice he won the CFL’s Best Offensive Lineman award, and he also played on 3 Blue Bomber Grey Cup winners. Beyond his enormous skill on the field, Walby was a heart and soul type player, the kind of locker room leader that all championship team must have.
Following the Bombers 6th practice of training camp on Friday, head coach Mike O’Shea raved about Walby’s accomplishments on the field, as well as his contributions to the Winnipeg community.
Walby will be honoured at the Bombers 2016 Home opener against Montreal on June 24th. The Bombers will add one more name to their Ring of Honour at each of the remaining 8 home games this season.
