WINNIPEG – Thousands of members and supporters of Winnipeg’s LGBTQ community took part in the Pride Parade on Sunday.
The day began with a rally on the front steps of the Manitoba Legislature. It featured speeches by Mayor Brian Bowman and Premier Brian Pallister.
Bowman then walked in the parade with fellow Canadian mayors, Naheed Nenshi of Calgary and Don Iveson of Edmonton who are in town for the Federal of Canadian Municipalities annual conference and trade show.
The parade ran through the dowtown core, up Memorial Boulevard, east down York Street, south on Garry Street and then west on Broadway.
Gilbert Baker, creator of the Rainbow Flag, served as this year’s Honourary International Marshal.
