Leaders from across the country have head home with nothing but good things to say about Winnipeg.
Mayor Brian Bowman says that’s one of the big takeaways from the Federation of Canadian Municipalities Conference.
He says that’s the kind of promotion money can’t buy.
“They left feeling really good about Winnipeg and its future. To have people of decision-making levels across Canada leaving, singing our praises, that’s good. We expect many of them will want to return soon.”
Bowman adds that there was lots of discussion about how to improve the downtown and learn from other cities.
“There was universal recognition that there’s a tremendous opportunity to really continue building on strengthening downtown, especially making sure pedestrians can move between the Exchange and The Forks and all areas around Portage and Main.”
He adds that there were lots of discussion about what other municipalities and cities are doing to make sure growth is paying for growth, about which he says others are much farther ahead than Winnipeg is.
