Winnipeg – A new report at city hall says Winnipeg has too many digital signs and billboards.
The report will be debated at the property committee, Tuesday.
It says there are now about 400 signs or billboards around town, often bringing down the look or tone of neighbourhoods and sometimes causing unsafe distractions for drivers.
The report says the city passed a series of tough rules and regulations for the signs back in 2012 but they aren’t being enforced. It suggests the city’s Board of Adjustment is rubber stamping nearly every application, even those city planners suggest should be looked at more closely or rejected.
The report doesn’t make any specific recommendations but suggests taking another look at regulations to see if any changes are needed.
