WINNIPEG- Barring a cancellation, it’s going to be a milestone night for Winnipeg Goldeyes Manager Rick Forney this evening in Sioux City, Iowa. The 11th year skipper is set to manage his 1000th career game since taking over as the dugout boss of the Goldeyes for the start of the 2006 Northern League season.
Forney’s first game after succeeding Hal Lanier was a 5-4 win in Joliet on May 19/06 and there have been other special moments along the way. His 500th Managerial victory was a dramatic 4-3, 11 inning decision on June 16th of last season versus St. Paul.
And the 44 year old from Annapolis, Maryland also passed his former mentor for first place on the Goldeyes all time victory list with his 524th win on August 11th in a 3-2 win over Sioux Falls. Longtime catcher Luis Alen made it an even more special night with a walk off homer.
And the current cast of Fish should be plenty motivated to make it a memorable evening for Forney at Mercy Field at Lewis and Clark Park after getting thumped 12-2 in the series opener Monday Night.
