WINNIPEG – With some trepidation, the community of Point Douglas is bidding a fond farewell to Winnipeg’s outgoing police chief.
Devon Clunis retires next month, so the residents are thanking him at a reception today.
Chair of the residents’ committee, Sel Burrows admits they’re a worried about who will succeed him.
“It’s desperately important that we get someone that has the same values, that continues the community policing aspect. And, yeah, so we’re a bit nervous. We’re dependent on the police board to find someone of the same ilk,” Burrows tells 680 CJOB.
Burrows believes the people of Point Douglas have greatly benefitted by Clunis’ leadership.
He says the crime rate has dropped massively and residents are working well with police on prevention.
