WINNIPEG – There’s a renewed push to redevelop the old pump house on Waterfront Drive in Winnipeg.
It’s been tried before but never panned out.
Now, as CentreVenture’s Angela Matheson tells us, the downtown development group is trying again.
“CentreVenture has access to some property on the east and the west of the building. We’re looking at a mixed-use development that would put some new buildings in and around the pump house.”
The CentreVenture spokesperson says those buildings would generate revenue to redevelop the pump house, turning it into something worth visiting.
“The idea would be to get up above the pumps so that you’d be able to look down and see them,” Matheson explains. “We would also like people to be able to walk by and there’s great windows to be able to look in and see the pumps and some interpretation panels so that people understand the story of this building.”
The pump house is designated as a Heritage Building in Winnipeg.
