WINNIPEG – RCMP are warning boaters to be safe after one person died and two others had a close call on Manitoba lakes this past weekend.
On Saturday night, police say two fisherman docked on the shore of Kitchi Lake south of Island Lakes to clean some fish.
When they noticed their boat starting to float away, a 63-year-old Missouri man tried to swim out and get it, but he was taken by the current and is presumed drowned.
Then yesterday, two people ended up stranded out on Lake Manitoba in a self-propelled paddle boat.
Some people noticed them waving for help several miles from shore. RCMP were able to rescue them.
