Today on Winnipeg’s Morning News we had Erin Crampton from Crampton food market in-studio. She introduced us to some new in-season treats! Ever heard of the haskap berry? It’s almost like a cross between a raspberry and blueberry. (see picture) Right now they are at their prime but won’t be around for long. They would be great in smoothies, salads or even on top of ice cream. They’re chalked full of anti-oxidants. Also, Erin introduced us to pea shoots. Yup, all the stuff that grows around your pea pod. The stalks and leaves taste very much like a pea and absolutely delicious. (I haven’t stopped eating them since she left….) The lesson learned? There’s a whole wide world of fresh fruits and veggie’s out there that you may not be aware of. Head to a place like Crampton’s market for an education !
