BURLINGTON, ON – Ikea has announced they will be recalling 19 different dressers, including the very popular Malm dresser, because of safety concerns.
Since 1989, six children in the US since have been killed by dressers after the structures tipped over on them and more than 40 injuries have been reported. The most recent death happened in February in Minnesota.
According to Ikea Canada, no deaths or injuries have been reported in Canada.
Roughly a year ago, Ikea warned customers that dressers could tip if they weren’t physically anchored to a wall.
In total, 29 million units have been recalled. Those made between January 2002 and this month are qualified for a full refund. Anything made before that can be returned for a partial refund.
