WINNIPEG – It’s Canada’s 149th birthday today, and while there are many events going on to celebrate, there are some closures to be aware of.
Here is a list of what is open and closed in Winnipeg.
Malls and grocery stores
Major grocery stores and malls are closed.
Every Winnipeg Liquor Mart except for the Cityplace location will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Winnipeg Transit will operate a free Canada Day shuttle service, linking downtown Winnipeg to The Forks and Osborne Village. There will also be extra Route 11 Portage buses connecting The Forks and Assiniboine Park from noon until 11 p.m., although regular fares apply on those buses.
All Winnnipeg outdoor pools and spray pads will be open, weather permitting.
Crescent Drive, Harbour View, John Blumberg, Kildonan Park and Windsor Park Golf Courses will be open every day on the Canada Day long weekend from around 5:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.
All City of Winnipeg indoor swimming pools and libraries will be closed.
Recycling, trash and yard waste will be collected as normally scheduled.
Osborne Street from River Avenue to McMillan Avenue at Confusion Corner will be closed to traffic until 6 a.m. Sunday to make way for Canada Day celebrations. Stradbrook Avenue, Wardlaw Avenue and Gertrude Avenue will also be closed between Nassau Street and Scott Street.
