WINNIPEG – Even more roadwork could be completed in Winnipeg this year.
A pitch to invest $8 million from next year’s city’s budget on road construction this year has been approved by the city’s infrastructure committee.
Committee Chair Janice Lukes says it’s something the city has the option to do.
“It’s not common practice but it does occur from time to time when opportunities arise,” she said.
Lukes says that current low prices for concrete and asphalt are among factors for the idea.
“The public works committee feels the opportunity is here and that we should capitalize on this opportunity,” she said.
One road in all 15 wards would potentially be fast tracked for repairs if the city decides to put the money in place.
The executive policy committee and full city council will vote within two weeks.
