Winnipeg – Winnipeg Blue Bombers were without dynamic receiver Weston Dressler when they visited Calgary last week. Dressler will return to the lineup for Thursday’s game in Hamilton but this time the Bombers are dealing with a couple of injuries on the defensive side of the ball. Defensive back Bruce Johnson, who has started 36 of the last 38 Blue Bomber games, will sit out with an apparent hand injury. And rookie defensive end Trent Corney, who recorded his first pro sack against the Stampeders, will also be on the sidelines with an undisclosed injury. A couple of players worked at Johnson’s spot during Tuesday’s practice, including Trevor Hawkins, who joined the club last week, and who played for the Argos last season.
Spirits were high during the Tuesday workout with plenty of chatter and cheering and even some celebration after positive plays. Head coach Mike O’Shea said it was not orchestrated by him, that the players just decided to add some fun to the workout. To a man, the Bombers players claim their are not discouraged by the 0-2 start to the season. Disappointed yes, but discouraged, no. There are still 16 games to be played and the CFL history books are full of teams who have gotten off to a rough start and turned their seasons around.
Thursday’s game kicks off at 6pm Manitoba time with the broadcast on 680-cjob starting at 5pm.
