The Winnipeg Jets have re-signed centre Mark Scheifele to an eight year deal worth a total of $49 million.
That breaks down to an average annual value of $6.125 million per year for Scheifele, who was a restricted free agent.
The 23-year-old set a career high with 61 points last season, including a career high 29 goals. He was also a key performer for Canada at this spring’s World Hockey Championships as the team won the gold medal.
Scheifele has also been named to team North America for the upcoming World Cup of Hockey in September.
The Kitchener, Ontario native was the first ever draft pick for the 2.0 Jets. He was taken 7th overall in 2011.
