WINNIPEG – It’s a big birthday for a big Blue Bomber fan.
Minnie Steski is 101 years old today. And the Misericordia Health Centre is throwing her a blue and gold party.
Minnie’s been watching the Bombers since she was a teenager.
Blue Bomber alumni Rod Hill and Stan Mikawos, and Buzz and Boomer are celebrating her day with her.
“I hope I can take it,” she joked just hours before the big event.
The former X-ray technician at the Winnipeg Clinic had Bomber season tickets for many years, including during retirement, when she travelled the world.
“It’s been a wonderful life. I’ve enjoyed meeting other people from other countries,” she said.
Now she never misses a Bomber game on TV. She’s seen a lot of good players come and go. Just don’t ask her to choose just one favourite.
“There have been a lot of good players, you know. It’s hard to pick just any one,” she said.
Minnie says she can’t quite believe she’s more than a century old. She says on the inside, she feels “about middle-aged”.
Her motto for a long life?
“You know, you take each day as it comes,” she said.
