Revellers celebrating Bastille Day in Nice enjoying France’s national holiday began to scatter after a truck reportedly drove into a crowd.
84 are dead, ten of which are children. 202 people are hurt, 25 of them are on life support while 52 are listed in critical condition.
The truck driver then reportedly shot into the crowd, before dying himself an exchange of gunfire with police.
The man, 31, who has not been named, is originally from Tunisia, but was living in France, legally.
At this point, officials say he has no obvious link to terrorism, but does have a history of petty crimes.
An eyewitness said there were “bodies everywhere,” according to an Associated Press report.
French President Francois Hollande has declared three days of mourning across the country. He also says residents must continue to expect more violence from ‘the enemy’.
Just recently, Hollande had announced he was ending a state of emergency on July 26th, that had been in place for nine months. It has now been extended.
Social media images from the scene show multiple bodies on the ground; videos showed crowds of people running.
