WINNIPEG – Calgary police have a man in custody for questioning in relation to the disappearance of Taliyah Leigh Marsman, 5, who went missing earlier this week.
Officers are now searching an area east of Calgary for evidence in the case.
An Amber Alert was issued for the girl after her mother, Sara Baillie, was found dead inside their home on Monday.
Calgary police say the many they have in custody is believed to have been driving a dark grey sedan. They believe it was involved in Taliyah’s disappearance. The car was seen driving close to where Baillie’s car was recovered.
“CCTV footage obtained shows the car around the time when Taliyah was last believed to have been seen,” police said in statement.
No charges have been laid and no details about the man have been released, other than he was arrested in Calgary Wednesday around 10:30 pm.
Police say information they obtained since taking him into custody has launched a search in a rural area east of Chestemere for evidence.
The Amber Alert remains in effect for Taliyah.
Calgary police are still looking to speak to a family who had a conversation with Taliyah and her mother at a Dairy Queen Sunday night. They have released CCTV photos from the restaurant in the hopes of reaching them.
Police also say witnesses have reported seeing a girl matching Taliyah’s description about nine hours before her mother was found dead. They say the girl was with a stocky black man near where her mother’s vehicle was found. The girl was wearing red or pink boots with white polka dots and was carrying a reddish-coloured suitcase.
