One of our last D-Day veterans has died, Sir Paul Martin.
I had the privilege of having the “Greatest Transconian” join and share stories on my show a while back. Today we honour him. Forever we remember him and his sacrifice.
This is the obituary his son Peter Martin passed along to me, while I was away on vacation. I still had to make sure to share it with you now.
Obituary: Sir Paul E. Martin, C. D., Deacon
March 25, 1920 – July 4th, 2016
It is with great sadness that we announce that Paul Martin peacefully passed away with his wife, Gail and family by his side on July 4th, 2016 at the age of 96.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife Gail and his children: Peter (Audrey), Gary (Donna), Penny (Dennis), Vincent, step-children: Chantal Laramee (Scott), Christopher Laramee (Shayla), numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren & great great grandchildren. Brother David (Mary), in-laws: Donna (Gord), Pat (Bill), Peter (Jennifer), Roy.
Paul was predeceased by his wife Enid, his parents George & Artemise, step mother Anne Martin, sisters : Alma Chapman, Rita Lys, Lil Rasmussen, Theresa Coulombe, brothers: Ed and Wilfred; brothers – in – law Harry Chapman, Ed Rasmussen, Ralph Coulombe & Bill Lys; sister – in- law Anne Martin. Also, in-laws Peter & Stella Smith, Howard Butler and Russ Fogg.
Showing of respect will occur on Tuesday, July 12th at 10:00am at St. Bernadette Parish, 820 Cottonwood Rd. followed by the Mass of the Resurrection at 11:00 am with Fr. Phil Daley officiating.
Following the church service, interment will take place at the Transcona Cemetery (corner of Dugald Road and East Perimeter Hwy.) followed by a reception at the RC Legion, Branch # 7 ( 117 Regent Ave. East). Legion overflow parking in the E’cole Centrale parking lot at the corner of Day Street and Ravelston Ave.
