I want to pick up on a comment my colleague, Julie Buckingham, made this morning. Are we now entering into an era of “tragedy fatigue?” It seems we can’t go to bed at night or wake up in the morning without something-somewhere going terribly wrong. Police shootings in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The tragedy on the promenade in Nice, France. The attempted coup in Turkey. The sometimes violent protests surrounding the U.S. Presidential race. And that’s just a small sampling of world-wide issues. There have been some very tragic and sad stories which have come out of Winnipeg as of late. A violent murder downtown. Numerous fires causing millions of dollars in damage and taking lives. I could go on and on…but I won’t.
Some days it feels like the entire world has gone crazy. It’s too much to comprehend–take in–understand. Where is all the “happy news?”
