WINNIPEG – If you head to any Winnipeg hotspot these days, you’re bound to run into a bunch of Pokemon trainers.
Since Pokemon GO was released officially in Canada Sunday, players have flocked to The Forks, Assiniboine Park, and Kildonan Park to name a few places.
Now if you want to get between those spots more quickly and safely, a Winnipeg woman is offering rides on Kijiji.
“Me and my husband were out tracking Pokemon and he’s like ‘You know, you should post an ad and help people do this as a Pokemon lover,'” says Carly Dunlop, who runs Carly’s Driving Service. “I really want everyone to be able to experience the game properly and safely without being a danger to themselves or to anyone else. It also allows people without access to a vehicle to be able to go to the hotspots.”
Part of the appeal of Pokemon GO is getting players outside, walking around and exploring the city (this reporter caught 63 Pokemon in three hours near Kildonan Park Monday night). But Dunlop knows some people are trying to play while driving, and she also flaunts her expertise in the game as an asset.
“I know where all the hotspots are, I know what to look for, and I know what areas are best for tracking Pokemon,” Dunlop explains. “This game is allowing everyone who’s been a fan of the show since it came out to finally be what they’ve all wanted to be and that’s Pokemon trainers.”
Dunlop admits she hasn’t had any customers yet, just a few inquiries trying to make sure she’s not, in her words, a “psychopath who is out to kill them.” She says she’s taken her friends out and they loved it because of the thrill of the hunt and the camaraderie of playing and talking about the game with friends.
