Winnipeg – 11 wins in the last 15 games have finally lifted the Winnipeg Goldeyes into the “playoff mix” in the American Association standings. The Fish made it two for two against the best team in the league, dumping the St. Paul Saints 7-1 on Tuesday night at the Shaw Park.
Edwin Carl and two other Goldeye pitchers allowed just 1 hit, as Carl went 6 2/3rds innings to pick up the win. Leadoff hitter Adam Heisler paced the offense by going 2 for 3 with 3 runs scored as Winnipeg moved into a tie with the Laredo Lemurs for the AA Wild Card Berth.
Despite the back to back wins over St. Paul, the Goldeyes (32-26) remain 7 1/2 games back of the Saints (40-19) in the North Division heading into Wednesday’s finale of the series, and a 9 game home stand.
