Winnipeg – Back to back rounds in the red were the key for Devon Schade in a successful defense of his Nott Auto Corp Manitoba Men’s Amateur Golf Title. In doing so, the U of M Bison Men’s Golf team member became the first back to back winner since Brad Kirton of Pineridge in 2007 and ’08.
The reigning Manitoba Male Golfer Of The Year shot rounds of 68 and 69 over the final two days at Minnewasta Golf and Country Club in Morden to finish at 6 under 282, and 3 strokes ahead of Elmhurst Clubmate Zach Sackett.
Sackett, who led after the second and third rounds, couldn’t keep pace with a 74 and 73 over the final 36 holes. First round leader Allan McDonald shot his 3rd consecutive even par 72 to wind up third at 2 over for the championship.
And rounding out the Top Four on the leader board was Manitoba Men’s Jr Champ Zach Wytinck of Glenboro who closed with a “best round of the day” 4 under 68 to wind up at 1 under, 287 for the tournament.
Schade will now lead Manitoba’s Willingdon Cup team into the Canadian Men’s Amateur Golf Championship, beginning 2 weeks from today on August 5th at the Royal Ottawa Club.
