Driverless cars are coming, so it makes sense to focus on progress and the future and prepare cities for them. But you know what also makes sense? Focussing on progress that needs to be made right now – that needed to be made yesterday – or last year.
Yes, Councillor Allard makes a good point when he says we need to look at self-driving cars and the city changes that need to be made to support them.
And yes, some some cities have launched or are working to launch infrastructure focused on self-driving cars and buses: San Francisco, Austin, Columbus, Denver, Kansas City, Pittsburgh, Portland … Singapore, Wuhu, China, London, England … But Winnipeg can’t even maintain its potholes, shoddy streets, unkempt boulevards and bus stops. And how about that drive from the airport down Route 90 into the city?
So I ask you, what one project would you like the city to pay as much attention to as it would have to pay to creating infrastructure for driverless cars? Takings your calls and texts after 1pm: 204.780.6868.
