WINNIPEG – Korean War veterans from Manitoba are holding a candlelight service and reception in honour of the ceasefire that was declared 63 years ago on Wednesday.
Lois Mader of the Korean Veterans Association tells 680 CJOB it’s taken awhile for us to properly recognize our Korean War vets.
“Now they do have recognition,” says Mader. “It is not the forgotten war anymore. It has been recognized and we are now having an annual candlelight ceremony and service.”
The service begins at Brookside Cemetery, followed by a reception at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre.
More than 26,000 Canadians participated in the Korean War with 516 of them never returning home.
