WINNIPEG – Winnipeg police officers did nothing wrong after their pursuit of two armed robbery suspects ended in a fatal crash last year.
That’s according to an Independent Investigation Unit investigation released today, eight months after the crash.
Police were pursuing the suspects down Portage Avenue in the middle of the night, but backed off because the SUV was driving dangerously fast. The report says it reached speeds of about 160 km/h.
It crashed at Portage and Good. The driver died. The passenger was arrested.
The unit concluded the officers acted appropriately, and noted the driver of the SUV was high on cocaine and meth.
