GIMLI – As if Iceland’s run at Soccer’s European Championship wasn’t enough, the town of Gimli has even more reason to celebrate this weekend.
The annual Icelandic Festival kicked off yesterday in the lakeside community.
The event celebrates the culture and food of Iceland, and it also includes a sand castle contest, an arts show, fireworks, and live music.
There are three bands playing: Micah Visser, Sc Mira, and The Noble Thiefs.
Iceland’s culture minister, Illugi Gunnarsson, will be attending.
The festival, dubbed “Islendingadagurinn,” runs until Monday.
