A tornado that swept through Waywayseecappo First Nation has destroyed at least one home.
Environment Canada has now confirmed four tornadoes touched down in western Manitoba yesterday. No one was hurt.
“There were reports of around a dozen or so homes damaged,” said Dan Fulton of Environment Canada. “There was a bus on its side too.”
The other twisters touched down near Binscarthe, Rossburn and Elphinstone. Those areas escaped without any serious damage.
The Canadian Red Cross are already assisting families in the area. Disaster Management Manitoba Lead Cailin Hodder says they’ve set up a response centre in nearby Russel.
“Last night we deployed a team. That team is able to support the 14 families that did evacuate.”
It’s still too early to tell how powerful the Waywayseecappo tornado was or what it will be categorized as. That community is about 250 kilometres north of Winnipeg.
