WINNIPEG – City Hall is moving ahead with work on a design for the new Arlington Bridge.
They’re hiring a consultant to come up with a preliminary design for the bridge, which is now slated to be ready by 2023.
The goal is to start construction in 2019 with an early cost estimate of about $300-million.
The city says they want to build the new bridge just to the west of the old one, so it can stay open during construction.
But that depends on cooperation from CP Rail, which would need to move one of its lines.
The old bridge is over 100 years old and according to the city – can be closed at any time.
