CHURCHILL – The province is throwing a bone to the northern community of Churchill.
A new marine observatory is being built there, and Manitoba is chipping in up to $9-million towards the construction.
The University of Manitoba is behind the project and will focus on Arctic research.
The project is expected to create jobs, which is a hot-button issue in Churchill after dozens were laid off without warning from the Port of Churchill.
Omnitrax Canada still hasn’t provided any answers as to why they plan to close the facility.
Premier Brian Pallister has said Omnitrax closed the facility because the province would not continue giving the company a subsidy for the operation.
