WINNIPEG – A puppy whose story broke the hearts of people across Manitoba is on the road to recovery.
Asha was seen on video being thrown in the air and slamming to the ground in Easterville late last month.
She’s now in Winnipeg and being taken care of in a foster home.
Lindsey Gillanders with rescue group Manitoba Underdogs says they can’t believe how quickly Asha is improving.
“She’s surprised us all. She stood up shortly after she was picked up, I guess she felt safe and secure. And after being checked over we realized she didn’t have a broken back. She just has some bruised muscles. She’s doing great now. It’s really, truly a miracle.”
It’s still unclear if and when she will be ready for a family to adopt her.
“She’s just being loved, like, ridiculously. She’s really happy,” Gillanders says. “She spent August long weekend by the pool, chewing on some chew toys. She’s just a really, really happy dog who’s getting spoiled.”
The 18-year-old man allegedly shown in the video is still in custody after being hit with animal cruelty charges.
