WINNIPEG – There are calls for an inquiry by the wife of a epileptic man who died after suffering a seizure while he was being held at the Winnipeg Remand Centre.
On May 1st, Rochelle Pranteau says was talking to her husband, Errol Greene, 26, on the phone when he started having a seizure.
Pranteau says she found out from jail officials six hours later that he had died.
She claims staff there wouldn’t give Greene his meds in the days prior to his death.
Citing privacy legislation, Manitoba Justice wouldn’t say whether Greene was refused the medicine.
As for holding an inquest, Manitoba’s chief medial officer says that can’t happen until the original investigation into a cause death is concluded.
That can take up to six months.
