CALGARY – Indigenous activist Lisa Meeches is in a Calgary hospital intensive-care unit recovering from a stroke.
Meeches, who is the executive director of the Manito Ahbee Festival, suffered the stroke on Friday along with seizures from a brain bleed according to her husband, Dale Shirt.
“Her prognosis is not clear at the moment as she has not yet regained consciousness since Friday morning having suffered from this devastating head injury,” Shirt posted on Facebook on Saturday.
He says Meeches is stable ‘in that her level of fitness is sustaining strong vital functions.’
“We are truly optimistic that our Lisa is on the path to recovery,” Shirt said.
Meeches is also the executive producer and president of Eagle Vision, an independent film and television production company.
