Winnipeg – The Manitoba Blizzard appeared to have their first win of the Founders Cup National Junior B Lacrosse Championship Tournament in Orangeville, Ontario within their grasp on Thursday Afternoon- only to see it slip away in a gut wrenching 10-9 overtime loss to the Coquitlam Adanacs of BC.
The Blizzard led 9-6 with just over 6 minutes remaining, but then allowed 3 unanswered goals, including the game tying tally from Nico McNabb of the Adanacs with just 1:34 left on the clock.
Coquitlam struck early for the winner, when Jared Pozzobon scored his 3rd goal of the game just :53 seconds into overtime.
Kieren Mulvaney scored a hat trick in a losing cause for the Blizzard who were outshot 52-36 in losing their third straight game of the round robin. Blaze Bezecki also had a 1 goal and 3 assist effort for Manitoba who now face a huge challenge in Friday Morning’s quarterfinal playoff.
The Rocky Mountain League Jr B Champs square off against the Green Gaels of Whitby, Ontario at 10 a.m. CDT. The Green Gaels went 3-0 during the round robin to win Group A, outscoring their opponents 43-12 along the way.
