WINNIPEG – While a lot of gas stations right now in Winnipeg are still sitting around 93 cents a litre, some have started to rise to over a dollar.
Dan Mcteague with GasBuddy.com tells the All News Drive prices at the pump will bounce around for the next week.
“Before Labor day it will average around 97.9 to $100.9. If you see a $103.9, hold on for a couple of days because those prices are likely to come down.”
Mcteague explains retailers need to raise prices after whittling down their operating margin.
“At some point when prices start to rise on the wholesale side, they have to come up for air and unfortunately, it looks like a much bigger jump than it really is. The fact is at 93 cents a litre you’re getting quite a bargain, especially if you were paying with a credit card; retailers were actually losing their shirts at 93 cents a litre.”
Mcteague says following the long weekend prices should tumble to around 94 cents a litre.
