THE PAS – The Pas is looking at an uncertain future after news this week that the northern Manitoba town’s largest employer is shutting down.
Tolko will close it’s paper mill in December, throwing 330 people out of work, and devastating the small town of 5500 people.
CJAR radio’s Mark Andrews tells us a lot of people in The Pas are trying to keep a stiff upper lip, but some are having a really hard time absorbing the news.
“I spoke with a man last night and he said that when he got the news he’d been working with Tolko for the last two decades. He’s just about ready to retire. He said he spent the whole day, literally physically sick, because nobody saw this coming. It’s really mixed emotions everywhere,” said Andrews.
The Mayor described getting the news as the worst day of his life.
