WINNIPEG – Winnipeg Police Bomb Unit is investigating after a small explosion outside the law courts.
It happened just before 2:00p.m., Wednesday on York Avenue.
A Global News camera person who was on scene at the time says he smelled smoke in the air and started to look for the source.
Seconds later security ran over with a fire extinguisher but as soon as it was applied to the item burning, it exploded.
Police say one person was taken to hospital, as a precaution.
The area has been taped off as the Bomb Unit and Major Crimes investigates.
Road Closure: York is closed from Vaughn to Edmonton and Kennedy is closed from St. Mary to Broadway due to ongoing police investigation.
