WINNIPEG – There’s another twist in the case of alleged Winnipeg mail bomber, Guido Amsel. He’s fired his lawyer.
A skinny looking Amsel told court Tuesday he had lost the trust and confidence in well known local attorney Martin Glazer. Glazer had represented Amsel since shortly after his arrest last year.
Amsel told the judge he hoped to have a new lawyer hired by this weekend.
He is facing five charges of attempted murder.
The first three were laid after explosive devices were mailed to Winnipeg businesses in July 2015. One of them exploded in the hands of local lawyer Maria Mitousis. She lost a hand and suffered several other serious injuries.
The other charges stem from an earlier explosion outside the city in 2013. Those charges were laid separately by the RCMP.
The case is supposed to go to trial in October and is set to last 45 days. It’s unclear if this will force the trial to be pushed back.
