WINNIPEG – The city is moving ahead with plans to extend Chief Peguis Trail.
They’ve put out a tender, looking for a firm to design a nine-kilometre extension from Main Street west to Brookside Boulevard.
The plans would need to include “interchanges” which would function like overpasses at Main Street and McPhillips.
This could be part of the city’s longer term plan to build an inner ring road around the city.
But it won’t happen overnight.
“It’s not going to happen until we get other levels of government approving funding and council decides, so five, ten, fifteen, who knows how many years. We’re not at that point yet,” explains Councillor Janice Lukes. “This is just another step of the process, getting closer to an understanding of what it will cost.”
The earliest the city could start to fund this extension is 2018 and so far there is no cost estimate.
