Winnipeg – It looks like the Winnipeg Goldeyes are going to make their fans sit on the edge of their seats to the very end of the American Association season on Monday Afternoon.
The Fish lost a 1-0 heartbreaker in St. Paul Thursday Night, giving up the only run of the game in the bottom of the ninth inning in what was a pitcher’s duel between starters Mikey O’Brien of Winnipeg and the Saints Robert Coe.
O’Brien allowed just 6 hits, and Coe only 3 as both worked seven strong innings. The victory gave St. Paul a 4 game lead atop the AA North Division standings with just 4 games to go. The loss dwindled the Goldeyes lead over Laredo in the Wild Card chase to just a half game as the Lemurs and Texas were postponed on Thursday Night.
Winnipeg closes out their regular season schedule with a 4 game home series versus the arch rival Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks that opens Friday night at 7 p.m. at Shaw Park. The Lemurs are at home to league-leading Wichita who are one game ahead of St. Paul for the best record in the league and home field advantage throughout the American Association post-season.
