WINNIPEG – A warning from Winnipeg Police, who believe a taser was stolen after two officers were assaulted.
Around 2:30 Saturday morning the officers spotted a large group of people fighting at Rorie Street and Bannatyne Avenue.
They intervened and found an injured man, tried to provide first aid, but were hindered by the crowd, which then began assaulting the officers.
One of the officers had to discharge a taser, or Conducted Electrical Weapon, which was dropped during the ensuing struggle before the officers were able to get back to the victim to help him.
The victim was taken away by paramedics in critical condition, and it’s believed the taser was stolen during the incident.
Police say if it’s picked up by someone and carried in a pocket, a build-up of static energy could activate the weapon.
No word on arrests from the incident.
